All our artists are local talent, and we have featured every kind of art from modern and abstract paintings to photography, collage, and small-scale installations. Featured subjects have included pop culture, emotions, travel, and foreign culture. If you're looking for something new for your apartment or house, many of our artists do also offer their works for sale.

Marina Valentina

Marina Valentina lives in Santa Monica and is a regular here at Cafe Balcony.  This is her second solo show here, and comprises of paintings and drawings done in the past year.  Sometimes she animates in her time off (from animation) and sometimes she paints or goes life drawing.  She has an extensive education in the arts, begining with her uncle in Bulgaria where she was born. He is an award wining animator and a constant inspiration.  Marina moved to Brentwood, California at the age of 6, learned English and the ways of an entirely different culture. Then attended the arts highschool - LACHSA followed by CalArts for character animation, graduating in 2003.  She has also spent time teaching the art, animation, and video to kids between the ages of 9 and 18.

During the past year she has done much traveling and soul searching, through wich the artwork in this November 08 show is inspired.  She enjoyes showing her work at the coffee shop where people can come in and enjoy the work on the walls without having to go out of their way, a place where it is integrated into the daily routine.  The work get to interact with the community in a more personal, less formal way.

her work can be viewed at:   www.MarinaValentina.com

She has also written and illustrated a children's book which can be viewed and purchased here:  http://www.redcygnet.com/LostintheRoses.html
